Cleaning up tools is as enjoyable to me as woodworking. I haven’t read anywhere how to do it “right.” I know I don’t care about how old the patina is. I get out some screwdrivers, the WD-40, some bicycle grease, a toothbrush, some sandpaper, and get in touch with my OCD. Very satisfying.
Yeah, I figure as long as I don’t strip it completely it’s ok. These ain’t collector items I’m buying…definitely not a few uses in my hands. I’ve found the three different grits of rust erasers are really useful. Also hard to mess up with.
